Vacuum Sealer Recipes

Besides Food Storage, a Vacuum Sealer is a valuable tool in the kitchen.

Most people see a vacuum sealer as a tool for food storage, but a clever cook will use it for much more, elevating their cooking to a new level. Vacuum sealers have large roles when it comes to cooking food Sous Videwhich is in my opinion the biggest thing to happen to my kitchen since the discovery of fire. Here are some vacuum sealer recipes for you to try. These will be either Sous Vide recipes or recipes that lend themselves well to use with a vacuum sealer.

Besides cooking Sous Vide, One of the best perks to having a vacuum sealer is the reduced time it takes to marinate. Removing the air forces open pores, letting spices and marinade penetrate deeply into your food.

MAKE YOUR OWN TERIYAKI SAUCE MARINADE

Teriyaki is extremely popular, and even simpler to make. This is volumes better than any Teriyaki sauce you can buy at a store. Uses for this marinade are almost endless, though it especially goes well with shrimp, pork chops and of course, steak.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (240 mL) soy sauce
  • 1 cup (240 mL) water
  • 3/4 cup (180 mL) sugar, alternatively you can use honey to taste.
  • 1/4 cup (60 mL) Worcestershire sauce
  • 3 tablespoons (45 mL) distilled white vinegar
  • 3 tablespoons (45 mL) vegetable oil
  • 3 teaspoons (15 mL) onion powder
  • 2 teaspoons (10 mL) garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon (5 mL) sesame seeds
  • 1 teaspoon (5 mL) grated fresh ginger
  • Optional: Hot Sauce
  • Optional: Garlic
  • 1 teaspoon (5 mL) Cornstarch if you want to make this into a sauce

I prefer to use milliliters, especially since I have a food scale.

Mix all of the above ingredients. A blender will work best. If you want to use this as a marinade, add it to your meal and vacuum seal now. If you want to use this as a sauce then mix together the cornstarch with warm water until completely dissolved, then add into your teriyaki sauce. Put it into a sauce pan and heat up for a little while until it thickens to your desired consistency. If you want it thicker, add another teaspoon of cornstarch dissolved in water.
