A good vacuum sealer pays for itself by stopping freezer burn and letting you buy meat in bulk, portion leftovers and prep sous vide meals ahead. But the “best” machine depends on what you seal and how often. Below are our research picks across the main categories, followed by a buying guide that explains what actually matters.
How we chose: these are research-based picks. We compared manufacturer specifications, manuals and warranty terms with recurring patterns in owner feedback; we have not lab-tested these machines and we don’t publish invented scores. Read how we review products.

Best overall: Nesco VS-12 Deluxe
The Nesco VS-12 hits the sweet spot for most households. It uses a 130-watt double vacuum pump, offers dry and moist settings plus an optional double seal for extra security, and has built-in roll storage with a cutter so you can make custom-length bags without scissors. It accepts bags up to 11.8 inches wide from any brand, which keeps running costs flexible.
The trade-offs: it’s about 15.8 inches long, so it needs a home on the counter or a deep cupboard, and the warranty is one year — shorter than FoodSaver’s five-year limited warranty on the VS2150.

Best budget: Inkbird INK-VS02
Budget sealers often strip out the controls that matter, but the Inkbird INK-VS02 keeps them: dry, moist, pulse and canister modes, a built-in cutter and a roll compartment, with an 11.8-inch maximum seal length. Pulse control is especially useful for crushable foods like bread or berries.
Its manual recommends letting the machine cool for 15–20 minutes during long sessions, so it suits regular rather than marathon sealing. Some owners report inconsistent seals with certain third-party bags — Inkbird recommends its own bags for best results.

Best for beginners: FoodSaver VS2150
If you want a sealer that’s easy to understand on day one, the FoodSaver VS2150 is a sensible start. Its controls are simple — vacuum, seal and a dry/moist button — and it includes roll storage, a cutter bar for 8-inch and 11-inch rolls, and a handheld sealer with an accessory hose for FoodSaver zipper bags and containers. Retailers list a 5-year limited warranty, the longest among our picks.
The manual doesn’t list a pulse control, so it’s less suited to delicate foods than the Inkbird, and the handheld attachment is designed for FoodSaver’s own zipper bags and containers.
FoodSaver VS2150 Vacuum Sealing System

Best for sous vide: Anova Precision Vacuum Sealer Pro
Sous vide puts seals under hours of heat and water, so reliability matters more than bells and whistles. Anova’s Precision Vacuum Sealer Pro adds a built-in bag compartment and sliding cutter, an accessory port with hose, and a low-pressure mode for juicy foods. Anova rates it for around 100 back-to-back seals and backs it with a 2-year warranty.
Its 110-watt pump is less powerful than heavy-duty machines, and — like every external sealer — it can’t seal liquids directly; pre-freeze marinades and sauces first. See how to vacuum seal liquids.
Anova Precision Vacuum Sealer Pro
Anova's upgraded external sealer adds bag storage, a sliding cutter and an accessory port, is rated for around 100 back-to-back seals and carries a 2-year warranty.

Best for bulk meat and fish: Avid Armor A100
Processing a deer, a quarter of beef or a big fishing trip means sealing dozens of bags in one go. The Avid Armor A100 is built for that: stainless construction, a double-piston pump with a cooling fan and a 12-inch-wide seal bar. An accessory port lets you use canisters and jar sealers.
It doesn’t have roll storage or a built-in cutter, so you’ll pre-cut bags, and the warranty is one year. For meat-specific technique, read How to Vacuum Seal Meat and Fish.

Best chamber vacuum sealer: VacMaster VP215
If you regularly seal soups, stocks, marinades or brines, a chamber sealer is the right tool. Instead of sucking air out of the bag, it removes air from the whole chamber, so liquids stay put. The VacMaster VP215 is a long-running commercial-style model with an oil rotary pump, a removable 10-inch seal bar with a double seal wire and an 11.25 × 15.25 × 5 inch chamber. It uses smooth chamber pouches, which are generally cheaper than embossed external-sealer bags.
The catch is size: it weighs around 84 lb, needs a permanent spot, the oil pump needs periodic maintenance, and the maximum bag size is about 10 × 13 inches. For a lighter, maintenance-free alternative, consider the dry-pump Avid Armor USV32 (about 26 lb). Our chamber vs external guide explains the trade-offs.

Best compact option for small kitchens: Zwilling Fresh & Save
Not everyone has room for a 16-inch appliance. Zwilling’s Fresh & Save is a cordless, USB-rechargeable handheld pump about 7.5 inches tall that evacuates reusable valve bags and containers. It’s ideal for leftovers, cheese, marinating and meal prep you’ll eat within days or weeks.
Be clear about its limits: it doesn’t heat-seal, so it isn’t a replacement for a countertop sealer when you want long-term freezer storage of meat and fish.
Zwilling Fresh & Save Vacuum Pump
A cordless, USB-rechargeable handheld pump for reusable Fresh & Save valve bags and containers — small enough for a drawer, ideal for leftovers and meal prep rather than long-term freezer sealing.

How to choose a vacuum sealer
1. External or chamber?
External (suction) sealers clamp the bag’s open end and pull air out through it. They’re compact and affordable but need textured bags and struggle with liquids. Chamber sealers evacuate a whole chamber, seal liquids easily and use cheaper smooth pouches, but they’re heavy and expensive. Most home cooks are well served by an external sealer.
2. Moist mode and pulse control
A moist setting adjusts the seal for damp foods; pulse lets you stop the vacuum before it crushes bread, berries or delicate fish. If you seal a lot of juicy meat or fragile foods, look for both.
3. Seal bar width and bag compatibility
Most home external sealers handle bags up to about 11–12 inches. Wider bags need a wider seal bar. Check whether the machine accepts third-party embossed bags — it can make a big difference to running costs. See our vacuum sealer bags guide.
4. Built-in roll storage and cutter
Not essential, but genuinely convenient if you use rolls. Heavy-duty models sometimes skip them in favour of a wider seal bar.
5. Duty cycle and cooling
Many compact sealers need a rest between seals. If you process bulk meat, look for fan cooling or a manufacturer rating for back-to-back seals.
6. Accessory port
Lets you use canisters, jar sealers and zipper-bag attachments — useful for pantry goods and coffee.
7. Warranty
Among our picks, warranties range from one year (Nesco, Inkbird, Avid Armor A100, VacMaster) to two years (Anova) and five years limited (FoodSaver VS2150).

Frequently asked questions
What is the best vacuum sealer for home use?
For most home kitchens, a mid-range external sealer with moist mode, pulse or gentle control and built-in roll storage offers the best balance. Our research pick is the Nesco VS-12 Deluxe. If you seal liquids often, consider a chamber sealer instead.
Is a chamber vacuum sealer worth it?
A chamber sealer is worth it if you regularly seal liquids, process large volumes or want cheaper bags over time. For occasional sealing of meat and leftovers, an external sealer is smaller, lighter and much less expensive.
Can I use any brand of bags with my vacuum sealer?
Most external sealers work with any embossed or textured vacuum sealer bags within their maximum width; smooth chamber pouches won’t work in an external sealer. Some brands recommend their own bags for best results — check your manual.
Does vacuum sealing make food last longer?
Vacuum sealing greatly reduces freezer burn and helps frozen food keep its quality longer. It does not make perishable food safe at room temperature, and it doesn’t substantially change refrigerator safety times for raw meat, poultry and fish. See how long vacuum-sealed food lasts.
What should I look for in a vacuum sealer for sous vide?
Reliable, consistent seals matter most, plus a moist or gentle mode for marinated foods and a double-seal option for long cooks. A built-in cutter and roll storage make prepping many bags easier.
